America's Top Residential Architects (2025)

Albert Righter Tittmann Architects designs new houses that look old, and makes old houses look new again. Founded by Jim Righter, Jacob Albert and John Tittmann back in 1996, this Boston firm is celebrated for its command of history and appreciation for New England architectural traditions, which it preserves in its remodels and emulates in its new houses, which combine vintage architectural detailing with 21st-century technology (as in their Featured Project, a net-zero Greek Revival house in Wellesley, whose super-insulated envelope is paired with a solar array and air-source heat pump). Despite their devotion to history, the staff of 20 never lets it overshadow the needs of the owners or the setting, striking a balance that melds the best of the past with the expectations of the present.
